An Eye for an Eye, "...Vengeance is Mine, I will repay..."

Romans 12:19

Many of us have taken this quotation which is also to be found in the Old Testament to mean that we must exact revenge for any wrong that is done to us. Misinterpreting this injunction, we have often gone out of our way to exact one form of revenge or the other in the belief that then we are fulfilling a Commandment from God.

If this quotation is looked at critically, however, we will discover that it is indeed a Commandment not to take or seek revenge. This statement, having being made by God states clearly that He will repay every wrong that is done.

We must realise that evil or wrong is foreign to this Creation. They have no reason to exist. Being alien, they disturb the rhythm. Evil causes not only specific injuries to individuals but also a general one to the whole of Creation. It creates an imbalance. It creates ugliness everywhere.

Any form of evil therefore is thereby a sin against the order and beauty of Creation. The beauty and the rhythm of Creation are destroyed. If widespread, not only does it disturb the normal rhythm, it is also capable of holding down and making this part of the world heavy. It consequently changes the course of the particular material globe.

The latter, instead of continuing to uninterruptedly absorb of the Power of God so that it can remain fresh, veers off course and is cut off from this Power. In the end, in order that this diseased part does not spread the evil to other parts thereby also contaminating these other parts, it must consequently be cut off and destroyed.

The rhythm in Creation is maintained by the Laws of Creation. These Laws are perfect in the way they the guide the order. These Laws in their radiations are maintained and guided through the Power that comes from the Holy Spirit. These radiations in the Laws are also thrown into confusion by evil and must one day seek to extricate themselves from the false course that mankind have led them through the wrong use of the free will.

Since the Holy Spirit maintains the order in the entire Creation, and also since everything that happens in the whole of Creation is sensed by Him since His Power penetrates the entire framework like nerve strands, it then goes without saying that any evil that is introduced into Creation is an evil into the mechanism maintained and pervaded by this Holy Spirit.

Evil therefore is thereby a sin against the order in Creation and against the maintainer of this order. Evil therefore is a sin against the Holy Spirit. Since the Holy Spirit is a part of the Holy Trinity and therefore a part of God, evil therefore is a sin against the Almighty Himself.

Evil consequently must be seen as a personal affront against the Holy Spirit because the order which He maintains is being disrupted by this evil. Since it is a personal sin against Him, it is then His responsibility to seek redress for this evil. Hence this statement "Vengeance is mine, I will repay". Therefore the evil that another does against us is really an evil done against the Holy Spirit, since in the final analysis, the after-effects work on continuously in the disturbances it brings into the mechanism.

The personal evil done against us will only in the final analysis last a short period of time. We must realise that every evil volition takes on form. These forms have animistic cores and consequently can act independently. In fact they continue to do so, spreading and encouraging the author and others with similar tendencies or weak defences to continue to produce similar forms. They also cause downright devastation amongst the elemental beings.

These forms continue to live on for centuries, even thousands of years as long as they receive reinforcement through their authors or other human beings. Through their activities, they bring destruction to the part of Creation in which they find themselves.

How does the Holy Spirit take vengeance, however? There is a Law in Creation called the Law of Reciprocal Action. This Law conditions that whatever a man sows, he shall reap in a multiplied way. All the evil forms produced by man go out into the world and attract similar forms to themselves or they get attracted by similar forms. Through germination, growth, development and ripening of these forms there comes a time when the producers must reap the harvest of their evil seeds (forms). It is the self-same process just like the seeds of maize or any other seed on this earth.

Not only will the consequences of the individual wrong be returned to the authors but also the consequences of the various activities of these forms. If, for example, it is a form of hatred, its activities may have goaded other individuals to acts which cannot even be imagined by the original producer. His forms may have led to murder and so on. The original producer must have a share in the guilt brought about through these deeds. These effects must be devastating.

All these evil are all sins against the Holy Spirit because something evil and alien has been introduced into His perfect Work which disturbs the rhythm and causes downright devastation. It therefore lies within His jurisdiction to seek redress and balance for these disturbances. Moreover, through His Power which penetrates the whole of Creation, He is able to determine to the last detail the extent of the damage that the evil forms produced by each individual have done and as such is able to weigh minutely the punishment for these producers so that no injustice is possible in the meting out of this punishment. Everything is minutely and accurately weighed.

If we as individuals seek to seek redress ourselves, we are then also introducing evil into Creation for which we will have to pay a heavy price. Creation will not count the act as an act of revenge. It will count it as an evil act, no more. If we ask for an eye for an eye then this "eye for an eye" is not meant to be carried out by us.

An eye for an eye refers to this same Law of Creation (Reciprocal Action) and also the Law of Homogenous Species which return to each individual the fruit of the same seed that was introduced by the individual. If that individual has done a particular evil, then that same evil will the returned to him when the time comes. He will not be able to reap mercy where he sowed wickedness. He will reap exactly the same type of evil deed that he favoured his fellow men with. He will not be able to reap rye where he sowed rice.

If he sows envy, then he will receive nothing else but envy through the just Laws of this Creation. This is then the eye for an eye that has been referred to but has not been understood. Only the Laws of Creation are capable of doing this in the way that even goes beyond our imagination. People account for all their evil in ways that are so comprehensive that it is impossible for human beings to achieve the same level of justice.

We should leave the Laws of God to handle justice. It will done in ways that are more far reaching that we can ever imagine. We should therefore never seek revenge. This seeking forms threads that tie us to the other person and we will then unfailingly be drawn to areas in the Beyond where this person may have been led to. If this individual has been led to the nether regions then we will also be led there because this desire for revenge pulls us in the same direction, to regions that we would rather avoid.

It is therefore clear that the injunction that we should never seek revenge and that "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay" is nothing but Love from the Creator. It is aimed to protect us from this terrible fate of being drawn to areas in the Beyond that may prove impossible for us to escape from through this simple desire for revenge.

It is better to walk away and get on with our lives no matter what the wrong may have been. We should leave Justice to God. Otherwise the consequences of wanting to take revenge or even the actual revenge itself can be disastrous. We have already discussed the consequences of seeking to take revenge. The taking of the revenge itself also as mentioned above will not be seen as revenge by the Laws of God. According to these Laws, it is just another evil act which must be atoned for.

Therefore no matter how we look at it, it is of no use to either seek or take revenge. We may be led to regions in the Beyond from which there may be  no escape. We should not play with our existence.
