The Language Apparatus

The language apparatus of man had to be sufficiently modified to allow for speech. What are these apparatuses and what were they like at the beginning of the entrance of man before the development of language? Our direct physical ancestors could not make speech, which is an activity that demands the co-ordination of the voice and the ability to articulate. The reason for this inability is the lack of the anatomic adaptations for this, and more importantly what actually precedes this, which is the fact that the animistic or the animal soul in general did not have this ability to make speech in their animistic essences or cores. If they did, this would have forced the development of the apparatuses needed for this since it is actually the core, the essence within the physical body that controls everything. Therefore, the basic reason is the lack of this ability within the animal soul. The human spirit, however, has this ability; he brought this ability with him to the earth and it is this which with time forced the development of the physical apparatuses which are needed for speech.

The spirit, having entered the physical body would now mould it in such a way as to be able to allow it to unfold all the abilities it carried within. The spirit formed the body in such a way as to provide it a template for the realisation of all its abilities. Because the spirit carries within it the ability to form speech, it then had to direct the formation of the apparatuses which would allow it to perform this most important function, allowing it more than the animal to anchor its volition on earth with the use of the earthly human word. The human word bears a faint reflection of the power of the Living Word of God which gives it formative power and which can shape events for the better or for the worse according to how it is used.

To quote Abd-ru-shin again, "Every word shaped by man has come into being under the pressure of higher Laws and, according to its application must manifest formingly in a very definite way!" Therefore, through the gift of the ability to speak we can actually fashion the world of matter in a beautiful or in an ugly manner according to the volition that lies behind the formation of these words. This ability therefore is one of the highest gifts given to the human spirit for its journey in the world of matter. We are supposed through our special gift to bring the world of matter to a higher level. The animal had brought the world of matter to the highest level it could in its own way. A further development of the world of matter needed the special gifts of the human spirits of which the human word is just one, but a very important one at that.

One of the most important apparatuses that was prompted to develop under the influence of the spirit is the speech integrative area in the brain called Broca's speech area which controls the ability to say what we wish, without which we are incapable of vocalising. This is because this area controls the skilled movement of all the organs of vocalisation such as the larynx, lips, mouth, the accessory muscles of articulation and so on. When this area in the brain becomes damaged, we are not able to make all these organs produce speech in a co-ordinated manner. Another very important area of the brain concerned with the perception of speech is the so-called Wernicke's area, which controls the formation of thoughts and the choice of words.

Without this area we would not be able to put together appropriate words to express our thoughts and we will not even be able to understand the spoken language because this area controls this function. These two integrative areas therefore are of supreme importance in the development of speech and their presence is peculiar to the human species. No animal has been found to possess these areas in their brains, nor can it be said that our direct ancestors had these areas in their brains. Human beings, it seems had to develop these areas de novo. These two areas work in conjunction with each other to allow for perfect speech. For example, Wernicke's area is able to organise the words and the thoughts and then afterwards transfer the information to Broca's area to co-ordinate according to its nature and pass it down to lower areas it controls like the larynx and so on.

These areas are decisive for language ability and the learning of language. Other apparatuses which have been developed in humans with time are those concerned with phonation which is the voice and those of articulation. Those concerned with the former are principally the larynx which contains for practical purposes a pair of vocal cords. These are the main sound-making apparatuses in humans which is made through its vibrations caused by the movement of air coming from within the chest cavity. Apparatuses for articulation of words mainly include the soft palate, the mouth, the lips and the teeth. These allow the words or the sounds produced to be properly articulated into something meaningful. A further evolution of the larynx in man through its descent and also the appearance of the vocal cords, the reduction in the size of the teeth, a general reorganisation of the mouth with a modification of the soft palate, lips and the tongue made co-ordinated speech over time possible.
