THE STAGE OF THE RECOGNITION OF PHANTOMS, DEMONS AND BENEVOLENT BEINGSBecause the fall of man occurred so long ago before the human spiritual could become strong enough to resist evil, and because it occurred very early in human development, we will discuss the spiritual development of man only after the fall of man. Because it is also easier for us to form a conception of what afterwards happened, it is better for us to start here. Broadly speaking, the spiritual development of man is divided into two: before and after the fall of man. We all have a broad conception and idea of how life was before the fall and we all know that life at that time was characterised by an unswerving devotion to the Creator which devotion guaranteed protection and progress. There was peace, harmony and happiness. What has characterised life after the fall of man is also all too familiar to us. But generally speaking, the stage of the recognition of the state of physical nakedness was the earliest and was brought about by the dawning awareness of the feeling of shame which is a quality deeply embedded in the human spirit. Therefore, this stage is the first and must have taken a long time to occur and went on concurrently with the further evolution of the physical body and the gradual conversion of this body from that of the animal which we had inherited to the human one. This breaking through of the feeling of shame is actually the first act of self-consciousness by the human spirit who had just incarnated. Following this first act of self-consciousness, the human spirit germ became more and more aware of his environment, his instincts and feelings through his struggles with nature and in his need to survive. His eyes opened more and more and he began to recognise the forms of his emotions, his thoughts, feelings and intuitive perceptions. As mentioned earlier, deeply embedded in the human spirit is the desire to see spiritually a step above the level at which it is presently standing. Human spirits at such a low stage because they had just incarnated had to start from the very beginning in their recognition. There was no question of suddenly been able without further ado to recognise the Creator since he did not have the ability to do this. His abilities which he would have been able to use for the purpose were still undeveloped and these he had to develop through the stage by stage experiences he must go through. Therefore, we had the human spirit germ standing at the lowest stage of spiritual development. In Creation generally, the earth and all the other gross material globes that we are able to see belong to the lowest level in the entire Creation and as such man, being completely spiritually ignorant had to start from this lowest level which corresponded to his own level but another point is, the spirit generally, since he had to rule in gross material Creation through his knowledge has to pass through this gross material creation in order to gain knowledge of it. Therefore for these reasons the human spirit who was still not fully self-conscious had to start his journey at the lowest level. The Law of Attraction of Homogenous Species saw to this. This urge for the recognition of God came ever more to the fore at this level because it is this urge, if properly grasped and understood that will help him in his progress and would even determine the rate at which he progressed. It is this urge which started him on his journey upwards from the level of the earth gradually and which if kept alive in the right manner would guarantee a completion of his cycle on his entering Paradise. Therefore, the first stage for him was the recognition of the gross material: his environment and his physical body which eventually led to the recognition of his physical nakedness. Because he was already a thinking being, he could later on recognise the forms of his thoughts; because he could intuitively perceive he later also learned to open his eyes wider and begin to recognise the forms of his intuitive perceptions and emotions. Our thoughts, words, intuitive perceptions, and deeds all have forms which correspond to the nature of these. These forms are grouped according to the layers of the gross material world, for example thoughts and forms of the intuitive perceptions belong to the realm of Fine Gross Matter. There are therefore forms of good intuitive perceptions which are called Benevolent beings which are basically forms of love and so on. There are also forms of evil which are called Demons, forms such as those of envy, hatred, murder, jealousy and so on. The forms of the thoughts arising from the brain are called phantoms because these soon after a shorter or a longer period fade away. Before the fall of man, due to the absence of evil, these forms were invariably noble and good. Men at that time did not know evil and as such produced only Benevolent beings which latter helped them in their further progress. These forms which they produced combined with the confidence which these people had in the guidance of God did not arouse fear in them because they knew no fear. Fear is nothing but one of the consequences of the fall of man. These forms therefore spread peace everywhere working according to their nature. Everything blossomed forth and nothing was to follow but a further unfolding in the continued interaction with nature. The next stage for this people was all too predictable, they began to recognise the animistic beings. We have accounts of how people at that time progressed in their continued relationship with the Animistic beings and how happiness and peace blossomed for all mankind. After the fall of man however, we began to introduce the forms of evil which are called demons. These naturally aroused fear in the people because of their unusual and unnatural shapes and in the beginning because of the different natures of these entities people attributed divine powers to them and began to worship them not realising that these forms were nothing but their own productions and that these depended entirely on them. These forms existed side by side with the forms of the Benevolent beings and many ancient primitive peoples have given stories of the existence of good and evil 'spirits' both of which they worship. Often the good 'spirits' were the Benevolent beings which have been produced as a result of their good intuitive perceiving. With increasing evil however, the demons multiplied in number in response to their greater production by men so much so that what became predominant in most primitive society was the fear, recognition and worship of these entities. Therefore in the earlier developmental stages of man, benevolent beings and demons stood side by side in the folklore of the people but as the fall of man progressively got worse and as a consequence, evil spread, the demons came to outnumber the benevolent beings because men came to produce more of them and as such came to dominate society. Today we still find societies in which demons are still being feared and worshipped and all sorts of sacrifices are still being made to propitiate these demons. Before the introduction of Christianity in most part of sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas and Polynesia demon worship and to some extent the worship of the lowest elemental beings was widespread. Even in Arabia before the advent of Islam, demon worship was widespread and it was not uncommon to see people worshipping roughly carved wood which were sometimes taken as totems. Divine powers were attributed to these structures and were feared and worshipped accordingly. Natural phenomena and disasters were attributed to them and a class of mediators grew who were the medicine-men. The worship of entities is still very widespread today and is mainly to be found in the Americas among the indigenous Indians, in Polynesia among the people of the Pacific and in some parts of sub-Saharan Africa. What was however a normal developmental stage in the primitive man of many millions of years ago cannot be considered normal today because this is nothing but a lack of spiritual progress beyond one of the very first stages in human normal spiritual development. Therefore people at this stage after having gone beyond the level of the recognition of their physical nakedness have now reached a stage where they could recognise and therefore as a result of the different natures of these entities which aroused fear began to worship them. But in centuries past and even in recent past people have been found who are going about unclad, completely naked or very barely clad. It must be assumed that these people retrogressed to this stage which they would in times past have gone beyond. The proof of this is the fact these people have been shown to have a distinct language which is an ability that would have been developed after the recognition of physical nakedness. This is in fact one of the severest retrogressions. Before the fall of man became so widespread we had the worship of these entities in a more noble form but with the spread of evil other practices became introduced which only testified to the domination of evil. Therefore as a result of this we have heard of practices such as human sacrifices and so on. These human sacrifices were not made to any recognised entity in Creation such as the nature beings but even if they were made to these beings they were made as a result of a distorted understanding of the nature of these beings. Primitive society as it was in early evolution had some degree of similarity with the primitive society of today at least in terms of its degree of recognition which places both societies on the same level but it differs in that through the continued spread of evil because of the fall of man, practices which were not to be seen with early man have been introduced such as human sacrifices among others. Through the fall of man, the present day primitive man has lost all real connection with Nature and therefore all understanding for it. He has lost the possibility of progress through the natural step by step climb by the introduction of practices which have sidelined him and this can only be attributed to his own guilt. The primitive man of old since he stood on the level that he should, and practised his cult in the correct way still stood a chance of progress through the natural process. The rapidly increasing evil caught up with him at this stage and naturally as a result he deviated from the normal way of practising this form of religion because so much that was wrong found its way naturally into his religious culture just like much that is wrong has also found its way into all aspects of human society today as a result of the fall of man. He is therefore not alone in this, his guilt is in being caught up too early or while standing still, allowed himself to be caught up and naturally the possibility of progress and a way out was lost to him. Hardly any primitive society today practises its beliefs the way Creation ordained that it should be done. This is hardly surprising because inevitably through staying too long on the same level, other things have crept in which have derailed it from the normal process. He no longer has any support from Creation and is thereby abandoned. Creation has sped past this stage and therefore the religious practices of such people have no support from the Laws of Creation because in the normal course of events it has no reason to exist at this point in time. If many of these practices still remained pure as they were with early man, a happening which is not possible in any case because of the rapidly increasing evil, then their further ascent through the knowledge would have been possible but as it is, this is not possible without special help from the Light Itself. For these people to progress on their own accord is no longer a possibility. This, however, applies to the whole of mankind and not just the primitive peoples. The help that would therefore come from the Light would be a help for all, taking into consideration all the levels of maturity of all men. Only such help is complete and it is only God that can give it. But it is very likely that as time goes on, many of the primitive peoples would not be able to cope with the changes going on and eventually will run the risk of extinction because their level of maturity does not correspond with the level of maturity of the earth, thereby disobeying one of the fundamental Divine Laws, the Law of the Attraction of Homogenous Species. The human beings on earth must be so advanced that his maturity matches the present state of maturity of the earth, otherwise we run the risk of being left behind by the ever-increasingly maturing Creation. If personal efforts are therefore not made by each individual to catch up, the result is a casting off, which is extinction since each one of us must be able to achieve a minimum level of maturity acceptable for existence on earth. The world of matter will not allow itself to be retarded in its development by the indolence of human spirits. Therefore every one of us must be able to make the effort now to achieve this minimum level of maturity. Everybody can help himself, even the present day primitive peoples. All we all have to do is to assess our level of development and then take it from there. We must all start where we left off, from where we still possess our balance. We can achieve the greatest level of development for ourselves in a very short time no matter on what level we find ourselves. The adoption of foreign religions and ways of life has not helped nor will it ever help but on the contrary in its application what it has done was to attempt to erase the personalities and the identities of those who had adopted these religions and opinions, something which is absolutely dangerous to the human spirit. This more than anything else speeds up the process of extinction mentioned above. Fine, the primitive people have been brought to a level whereby he could interact with those who are more mature than himself and as a result come to see himself as he really is and in this process of self-recognition do something about his state but this he must achieve for himself and not by copying others but by seeing what he has neglected and then trying to make up for lost time as he is, trying to ennoble what exists and trying to developing it further. The attempts which have been made over the decades to convert primitive peoples to foreign religions will not give a lasting result because the transition for this has always been lacking. The failure of the attempts are all too obvious from
the fact that these people only practise the religion as it suited them
and always revert back to the practice of their traditional beliefs. This
proves that this is the level they still belong to in spite of the fact
that they have been baptised and real spiritual help for them can only
come when their level is explained to them and then helped gradually to
understand this level thoroughly and then from there help them gradually
to rise through the knowledge.
