Has the spiritual development of man been continuous or discontinuous?

HAS THE SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT OF MAN BEEN CONTINUOUS OR DISCONTINUOUS?

Has the spiritual progress of man been continuous or not? The chances are that it has not been. Many times in the past we had through our attitude and through disobeying the Laws of God attracted nothing but destruction when the harvest was due. Having thus attracted destruction, we then have had to start all over again. Because we had taken the wrong path we had to start from where we stopped. We should have progressed far more than we had done today if it had not been for this continually recurring problem which always threw us back for thousands of years. Men of old, because of their adjustment to all the Laws of God had all the doors to the spiritual heights open to them and as such could receive undreamed-of support for their existence. With the fall of man, however, and the over-cultivation of the intellect, man closed all the gates to the Luminous Heights and after having achieved a particular height we now took the plunge back downwards to the level we are at the present stage.

Our achievements belie our lengthy evolutionary history. This is to say that we ought to have achieved more than what we have today considering the length of time of human history. This is due to the over-development of the intellect which prevented real progress. History shows that man had reached a particular height in his spiritual recognition and he would have continued and developed his abilities better but at a particular point he made a decision to abandon the path which so guaranteed him success and progress in the past; a path which guaranteed connection with the Luminous Heights and the achievements of such great things which ancient peoples had achieved but which leave the modern man amazed as to how they achieved such feats. Which is to say that the human race with connection to the Luminous Heights is in a position to achieve much more than what modern man with his intellect ever can.

After the fall of man, the history of man is only too familiar to us. It is characterised mainly by wars, deeds of wickedness, things which can only characterise people who have abandoned the use of the intuitive perception, the instrument of the spirit. Therefore, before the fall of man we had peace but afterwards we could only talk of wars and those other things with which we are too familiar. But how do we prove that there was peace before the fall of man? One of the most important evidences is to be found in the Bible in which it was clearly stated that man incurred the wrath of God and that evil spread on earth as a result of this fall. All evil on earth therefore came as a result of this fall.

In the book 'Ephesus', one of the Grail Message Foundation books we have an account of the height a group of people had reached many millions of years ago for this was a happening that occurred before the ice age which would date it to well before 2.5 million years. These people had connection with Nature and as a result achieved both spiritual and material progress. What since then has happened to man? It was like we stopped progressing in this direction and as a result decided to follow new paths which has brought us to the present chaotic stage characterised by nothing but suffering. Therefore the development of mankind has been chequered. We also have accounts of the people of the lost island of Atlantis, of their abilities and achievements because of the connections they had with Nature. The pyramids of the Incas and the Egyptians until now have not been matched in architectural sophistication and some have even claimed that those building must have been erected by "Aliens" not believing it possible that ancient peoples could do such things.

The ancient Greeks too had knowledge and some degree of connection with the nature beings but the over-cultivation of the intellect had increased to such an extent that their society was characterised by conflict and wars. Though they had these connections they did not make use of it and did not use the advice of these beings, and one should realise that the accounts which we read in Greek Mythology were events in the experiences of ancient peoples so they were nothing but historical accounts of even more ancient Greeks who had better connection with the animistic, and by the time these epics were written belief in the existence of these gods were already under attack.

In short, side by side with the belief in the animistic also was a parallel growth in the over-cultivation of the intellect which brought confusion and which prevented a full blossom of these beliefs and which in the end gained the upper hand so that by the time Christianity came to the whole of Europe they regarded the beliefs of those they came to convert as false, non-existent and pagan. Therefore, before the advent of Christianity, belief in the elemental beings was widespread and these people had knowledge of and were connected with these beings but because the people converting had no knowledge of these beings because they themselves had lost connection with the Laws of the Universe they declared all these as false and non-existent.

Therefore the intellect triumphed and those who were supposed to know the Laws of God and the stages through which the human spirit had to pass through for his development became the worst enemies of this progress. Therefore, once again disaster struck and the further spiritual progress of human beings was cut off just as has always been the case. A people making natural progress through the stepwise climb in the recognition of all that Creation consisted of which was the only way open to human spirits were prevented from doing so by those who indeed thought they were helping.

Once more an effective check was put in the spiritual progress of mankind and the basis for conviction was removed for millions of people through an incorrect spread of the Word of God given to us through Jesus. Therefore another opportunity was missed for a proper survey of Creation. The intellect effectively intervened first through the people themselves who had over time started to cultivate more and more of the intellect thereby making the connection with nature dimmer and dimmer and then the religious converters who, also serving the intellect declared as unreal what in reality formed the basis of the conviction of the people.

The teaching was good, it was the highest available but the way the conversions were made created gaps which completely removed the foundation of religious beliefs from the people. The peoples' beliefs should have been confirmed and then they should have been gradually guided in to the knowledge of this highest teaching. Since the converters themselves lacked this knowledge of the Laws of Creation it was indeed easy for them to disregard it and act as they thought fit. Through their activities the normal spiritual development of a whole section of mankind was checked. The same methods were later used outside Europe which did not help the local people. The methods have been wrong.

The people should have been led stage by stage gradually up to the point where the Message of Jesus would have been understood. Since the intentions behind conversions have scarcely been spiritual one is hardly surprised at the result. The Omnipotence of the Creator could not have made itself felt in this way because the reasons for these conversions was not for the most part love for one's fellow men. If the reasons for most missionary activities had been pure, a channel would have opened for the receipt of knowledge about how to go about the conversions and spiritual teaching of all peoples. What are we left with at the present time? Who among us can claim he truly has conviction and that he can answer all the questions about life that he should be in a position at this stage of his development to answer.

If he had gone through the normal process of development, he would have gained knowledge of all the workings of Creation and he would not have any questions left. As it is however, through this neglect we created gaps in the knowledge of people and this accounts for our ignorance in so many things. Not only have we stopped at the level of the threshold of the spiritual realm, we have even gone far below this and at the present we have no knowledge whatsoever of the Laws of God and now we have to start all over again in the building up of our knowledge about the real processes of Creation. We do not even know the purpose of our lives. We seem to have lost all the knowledge that we used to have. Therefore, we all have to start from scratch and seek to get explanations about everything. Everybody will have to assess his own level of development and then begin to build up from there.
