WATERThe element of water would include rivers, brooks, streams, lakes and oceans. Numerous great and small elemental beings have been described associated with this element. The smaller ones being associated with brooks and streams and the progressively greater ones with lakes, rivers and the oceans. In Greek Mythology, there are many described as nymphs, especially the small ones of the rivers, brooks and streams. Nymphs have also been described as lesser 'goddesses' of the ocean. Nymphs generally have been described as being beautiful female beings fond of music and dancing. Thus we have the Naiads which are nymphs of springs and freshwater streams; the Nereids, nymphs of the sea; the Oceanids, nymph daughters of the 'sea-god' Oceanus. In world Mythology in general, the animistic beings
related to water have been called Mermaids who are wonderfully delicate
beings with the upper body of a female and the lower torso of a fish; male
forms have also been described called Mermen but these are less well
known. The various beings associated with the water are generally called
Nixies and are to be found in abundance in any natural body of water and
their occupation is the maintenance of this element. Real knowledge about
the secrets of water and its real use can only be gained from those whose
work it is to maintain this element. It is only when we humbly acknowledge
the existence of these beings will it be possible for us to tap from the
vast knowledge which is theirs. A lot can be gained from this concerning
flooding, irrigation and many other ways in which water can be exploited
which today we have no notion of whatever.
