Is meditation necessary for spiritual ascent?

Meditation has become a widespread practice which many of us have adopted without much consideration. It is an age old-practice in the eastern religions but now in the 20th and 21st centuries has found its way to different parts of the world.

Meditation was a practice introduced among the monks of Buddhism and other eastern religions roughly about 2500-3000 years ago and the aim was to attempt to seek connection with the spiritual. Many of these monks often had to undergo long training before they could engage in meditation. The training and these exercises and also the practice of purity of thought were well-ingrained in these monks. They therefore were already somehow acquainted with the practice of pure thought, pure speech and pure deeds.

With this as a basis, it was then much easier for them to contemplate the spiritual and seek to connect with it through this means since they were already half-way there through their pure thoughts, words and deeds.

The situation is much different today, however. Many of us who practice meditation have not established spirituality as the basis of our lives nor have we engaged in constantly purifying our thoughts, words or deeds. In fact, a spiritual basis for our lives is often non-existent. Therefore, the life of the average man of today could not be more different to those of the monks of the eastern religions.

The average man of today through the nature of his intuitions is surrounded by heavy spiritual darkness and obviously his attempts at meditation will only expose him to these very dark surroundings, from which through his physical body and day consciousness, he is often protected.

He thereby through his exercises exposes himself to dark entities and also dark human spirits who now through his weakened defences can more easily approach him. Since these spirits are often malevolent, they then seek to exercise a like influence or even directly attack and damage his astral body.

Through this influence, man is drawn deeper and deeper into darkness and his way to Light is made more difficult. Because the surroundings of the earth at the present time is spiritually dark, it is advisable to avoid any form of meditation or experimentation found with the various societies. The effect can be spiritually fatal.

In order for man to reach spiritual heights, he does not need meditation or experimentation as commonly practised at all. All he needs is to be himself and strive after purifying his thoughts, words and deeds. All else will then be added unto him. He does not need any exercises. He should be simple and childlike and his path towards the spiritual heights will remain clear and undimmed.
